ibht have recently revamped the diet & nutrition diploma course and are delighted to announce that celebrity chef Rozanne Stevens will be delivering a 10 week cookery module as part of our unique diploma. Her 'Cook Yourself Slim' and 'Green Living' programmes will make you a very desirable nutritional therapist because you will hve more to offer your clients! You may have heard Rozanne on the radio waves during her regular slot with Pat Kenny. She has featured in national press such as the Christmas RTE guide and has made many TV appearances too! This qualification is suitable for those employed in holistic, health and fitness therapies and others who wish to acquire knowledge of basic nutrition. Sports Massage

Commencing February 2010
Tuesday evenings 7-10pm (17 classes) and Saturdays 10am-5pm (8 classes).

Sports massage is a therapy skill used for prevention and treatment of sports injuries. It incorporates intensive advanced techniques to improve suppleness and flexibility of muscles & joints. It is greatly used as part of a training programme, rehabilitation to treat injury or for warming up or down during events and training.
It combines Swedish body massage with advanced techniques such as compression, frictioning, neuro-muscular technique, muscle energy technique, soft tissue release , connective tissue massage as well as lymphatic drainage.
During your study students will learn about the:
  • Effects of exercise and stress on the nervous and muscular systems
  • Principles of the aerobic system, anaerobic glycolysis & creatine phosphate system
  • Physiology of the muscle cell with comprehensive study of the origin, insertion & action of all muscles of the body, joint structures and spine
  • Causes and effects of diseases and disorders and how these disorders affect specific sports
  • Principles of training, injury prevention, injury management and understanding the effects of overtraining

  • Healing process and understanding inflammation, scar tissue, adhesions and skin injuries
  • Use of thermotherapy and cryotherapy techniques
  • Preventative and rehabilitative training available to reinforce massage treatments
  • Benefits and effects of stretching and stretching massage movements
  • Consultation skills, contraindications, data protection, referral procedures, client care, hygiene, client positioning, treatment suitability and treatment planning
  • Sports massage techniques including effleurage, petrissage, frictions, tapotement, vibrations, manual lymphatic drainage, neuro-muscular techniques (NMT), muscle energy technique (MET), soft tissue release (STR), connective tissue massage (CTM), proprioception neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)
  • Sports massage techniques for treatment of injury, pre-event, during/between event, post event, corrective, preventative, conditioning massages
  • Common sports injuries that can be treated including: shin splints, ilio tibial release, muscle fatigue, sprains, strains, rotator cuff injuries, cramp, muscle soreness, spasm, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, torticollis, tendonitis, superficial skin wounds and more


Award: ITEC Level 3 diploma in Sports Massage
Prerequisites: Level 3 diploma in massage or equivalent.



Reflexology

Commencing February 2010

Reflexology Diploma Course

Monday evenings 7-10pm or Wednesdays 10am-1pm

It is a pre-requisite of this course that students hold a recognised award in Anatomy & Physiology or Physiatrics (e.g. VTCT (IIHHT / IHBC), NVQ, ITEC or equivalent). Applicants, who do not hold these qualifications, must take the Anatomy & Physiology diploma in conjunction with this course.

Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy that uses techniques of massage and pressure to the feet (and sometimes the hands), to stimulate the body’s own healing process. Reflexologists subscribe to the concept that the body is mirrored on the feet, and that reflex points reflect specific body parts.

The course content includes:
  • Theory- History, theories and practise
  • The Holistic Approach
  • Zones, reflex points and their relationship to organs and body functions
  • Structures, disorders and conditions of the feet
  • Contraindications
  • Hygiene
  • Health and safety
